What this calculator does not do
- — State disability and paid-leave lines.
- — Employer contributions, shown by some stubs for information.
- — Employer-specific codes and abbreviations; the reading guide lists the common ones.
Your stub says something else? Report a discrepancy: it is checked against the source and answered on the corrections page.
A complete example, computed
The stub above is generated from the calculator for the inputs you set: every line is the engine's output for 2026, the year-to-date columns assume the same paycheck all year, and the print button produces a PDF. It is the reference for checking your own: the reading guide walks each line and the checker compares yours with it.
What a stub shows and why
Earnings by type with hours and rate; pre-tax deductions, which reduce the taxable bases; taxes — federal, Social Security, Medicare, state, local; after-tax deductions; net pay; and year-to-date totals. Two taxable-wage figures appear because Section 125 deductions reduce FICA wages and retirement deferrals do not. The what is a pay stub guide covers what states require an employer to show.
Template, generator, and the line
The template is a blank, printable layout for an employer without payroll software or an employee reconstructing a lost stub. The generator fills that layout from the engine for a salary, state and frequency you enter, with names for the header, and marks itself as a computed illustration. Neither produces an employer's record, and a stub presented to a lender as one when it is not is fraud; lenders check against W-2s and deposits.
Questions
- Is this a real pay stub?
- It is a computed illustration for the inputs you set, using 2026 withholding. It is not an employer’s record and says so when printed.
- Can I edit the figures?
- No. Every figure is the engine’s output; a stub that lets you type the taxes is a forgery kit.
- How do I check my own stub?
- Set the same salary, frequency, state and deductions here and compare line by line; the checker on the accuracy guide names the largest gap.
